Ensure the name considers SEO.

"Washington Redskins" needs to be in the title ("Washington Redskins Straight Talk")
... and the URL (http://redskinsstraighttalk.blogspot.com/).

Remember, when people search, the parts of their search that match your title and URL are often displayed in a bold font.

Tweak the default layout.

Remove Google-specific "followers" widget. ("Edit" from design view, then "Remove".)
Fill out my author profile a bit.
Change order of widgets, putting profile above archives.
Add RSS badge ("Add Gadget", "Subscription Links")
Discover I don't really like their heavy-handed RSS links and add my own.

Change a few names; make them shorter.

Ensure Blog Posts section includes the "Show Share Buttons" feature.
